During a visit to the west steps of the capitol today, I had the great pleasure of visiting a display put on by the Nation’s Finest, a 501c3 non-profit which was celebrating their 50th anniversary as well as recognizing Local Hero Honoree’s. It was exciting to see that of the couple dozen people that they were recognizing for their outstanding support of our veterans were two members of Post 233. Julie Baumgartner and Kia Phillips.

American Legion Seeking Donations for Youth Sports Program
Summer & Fall Baseball Opportunities for Young Athletes

Elk Grove, CA ‘December 22, 2022’- The character of a community can be easily measured by how that particular community provides for its youth. Creating new opportunities and resources for young people is a fundamental part of that communal provision.

For nearly a century The American Legion has focused on creating such opportunities through their non-profit work with veterans and their families in an effort to promote education, leadership and community involvement. Offering youth sports programs has long been a part of that outreach.  Now, Elk Grove Post 233 of The American Legion is looking to offer such a service to the young men of the Elk Grove, Galt, and South Sacramento area through a Summer & early Fall baseball program. Boys ages thirteen to nineteen will compete on and against other American Legion teams in California with the goal of reaching the American Legion World Series, which was televised by ESPN this past August.

“Baseball is life,” says Dennis Barksdale, a member of the Sons of the American Legion. “Hard work, respect for authority, accountability for your actions, dedication to preparation, and learning to make sacrifices for others. Those are the values baseball teaches us.”  The program will offer an exciting offseason option for young players looking to further develop their skills and stay sharp between regular season play.

The American Legion is a chartered 501(c) (19) non-profit veterans’ organization, and all donations are 100 percent tax deductible. Tax-deductible donations can be made directly via debit card, credit card or PayPal at the computer link below:
